Zero Carbon Homes in Oxfordshire
Oxford Friends of the Earth and partners in the Oxfordshire Zero Carbon Homes Initiative (OZCHI) have launched a new campaign with the aim that all new homes across the county are built to ‘net zero carbon’ standards as soon as possible. Our County faces serious housing pressure over the next decade. Our concern is that however many new houses are to be built, they should all be of the highest possible environmental quality.
Please sign (and share) our petition and add your voice to the call for action: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/zero-carbon-homes-for-oxfordshire-2
We are calling on the leaders of the six Oxfordshire councils, the Growth Board and the Local Enterprise Partnership to work together to “develop, set and implement a new common standard that will deliver net zero carbon homes” and also to work with the government and other agencies to make Oxfordshire a ‘Zero Carbon Homes Innovation Zone’
This follows the recent announcement by the government that they will allow local councils to set higher energy standards for new homes than the current national standards.
Please also write to your councillors to support this move. There is a draft letter to use and more information on our website:
