Plastics

Oxford Friends of the Earth is a thriving and effective local group that has been active for over 40 years. Our purpose is to work together to promote a healthy and sustainable environment

It’s time to take action to end plastic pollution.

Over the past few decades there has been an exponential increase in the amount of plastic produced and used – much of it used only once. Along with this, we have a rapidly growing, long-lasting global problem: plastic pollution. And it’s everywhere…in aquatic and land environments. Plastic pollution threatens wildlife, human health and the global environment.

Oxford Friends of the Earth is working in collaboration to significantly reduce single-use plastics in Oxfordshire and calling on Government to introduce a plastic pollution action plan that is backed by legislation; a statutory long-term target to significantly cut plastic waste and pollution by 2042 – by phasing out all but the most essential uses of plastic.

Get involved locally by coming along to our monthly meetings and joining our Plastics Action working group (email plastics@oxfoe.co.uk).

Oxfordshire Action on Plastic Pollution (established by Oxford Friends of the Earth) awarded the maximum of seven stars to two cafes in the city of Oxford for plastic avoidance; Turl Street Kitchen and Jericho Coffee Traders, High Street.
