Particulate levels and temperature

Oxford Friends of the Earth is a thriving and effective local group that has been active for over 40 years. Our purpose is to work together to promote a healthy and sustainable environment

Graph 1: Connecting the City Council’s official monitor’s measure of particulate emissions with air temperature.
  • Graph 1 shows data for four 6-hour periods each day from 1-Nov-23 to 19-Jan-24 for the City Council’s particulate measure of air pollution from the official monitor at St. Ebbe’ School.
  • It also shows a centigrade measure of air temperature.
  • The cold spells in late November and from 11-18 January are associated with air pollution peaks.
  • The City Council monitors show that pollution is likely to be highest on weekends (especially cold weekends), between 6 pm and midnight, on cold days, and when there is little wind.
  • This is clear evidence that domestic burning is the main source of this air pollution.
