Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week
(this page is under development)
In September (18 – 26th) communities across the UK will join together for the ‘Great Big Green Week’. It will be the biggest event for climate and nature ever held in the UK. It takes place just five weeks before the UN ‘COP26’ Climate Conference takes place in Glasgow. We will commit to more action to tackle the crisis we face and also celebrate what has been done. See https://greatbiggreenweek.com/ for more on the national work.
The Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week will be part of this.
A short guide to what we are planning and doing is here: https://www.oxfoe.co.uk/introduction-to-oxfordshire-gbgw/
A new website is under development at https://greenweekoxon.co.uk/
We have some start-up funding and different organisations are already planning events. We invite people, communities and organisations of all types to hold an event during the week or join one of the larger events across the county. Our ‘Week’ will link environment, arts and community organisations to help people to take action and to send the strongest possible messages to politicians in the UK and world leaders at the UN event. That message is that ‘we are doing what we can, and we need you to step up and act for our climate and environment’.
Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week welcomes schools, businesses, parish councils, faith organisations, sports clubs and everyone else into the Week. We all need a healthy environment and we can all help make it happen. We invite you to plan your activity for the week. We have ideas and can offer publicity and support for your actions. A fuller website will be developed shortly.
Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week is being organised by a voluntary network. The Week has been endorsed by the Oxfordshire Association of Local Councils (OALC). The initial coordinating group includes (more members are welcome):
- The Oxfordshire COP26 Climate Alliance
- The Green Arts Oxfordshire Network
- Good Food Oxford
- Oxfordshire CAGS
- Oxford Friends of the Earth
