In addition to discussing latest updates and actions on our campaigns covering climate, trees, zero carbon homes and air pollution, we welcome a guest speaker to this months’ meeting; Richard Knowles will be speaking on the topic of water pollution in Oxfordshire, followed by a Q&A discussion:

Oxfordshire’s rivers have long been celebrated as part and parcel of what makes Oxford special. What the thousands of people who flock to Oxfordshire’s river banks don’t know is that raw sewage is regularly discharged into our rivers and the problem is getting worse! In the Thames basin only 6% of “water bodies” achieve the European standard of Good Ecological Status. So what is going wrong. Part of the answer lies in a ‘get out’ clause for the water industry that has operated since privatization: “storm” discharges of untreated sewage are legally allowed. Much more on this and the dirty reality of Oxfordshire’s rivers at the meeting.

All welcome!
